Bhilwara is now well known as " TEXTILE
CITY" . Before independence it was famous for its Mica, Soap Stone ,Sand Stone
mineral products at international level. In 1978 when D.I.C. was estalished,
only 1059 small scale industries were registerd .By 31.8.2001 this figure was
12484 .Now in Bhilwara besides textile ,Insulation Bricks, A.C. & ASCR
Conductors , Tractors & Compressor's , China Clay , 'Hozari' Products
,Fertilizers and 'Niwar' Industries are other main industries.
Textiles:
In the field of ,textile the district has a large number of units.Here 9284
powerlooms are established by which approximately 23.64 crore Mt.synthetic
cloth is being produced and 34252 employees are on the job.In Bhilwara ,at
present 22 process house are runnig.The capacity of these houses is round
3.5crore Meter per month .Total investment in the textile sector is around
Rs.812.00 crore.

Bilwara also has dry port. The motto behind I.C.D.'s
establishment is, to accelerate the export .The industrialists of
Bundi,Chittor,Rajsamand and Ajmer will also be able accelerate their exports.
The main items which being exported from here are , Marble, Granite,
Handicrafts, Yarns ,Threads and textile products.Total quantity of export was to
the tune Rs. 176.0
Infrastructure
- Electricity
Bhilwara receives electricity from Kota, Beawar, Rana
Pratap Sagar and Nimbahera. All the 1,565 villages have been electrified.
- Water
The main rivers in the district are Banas, Beduch, Kothari,
Khari, Menaali, Unli and Meaj. The water table in the district is
comparatively high between 10 to 20 meters. The ground water is fresh and
potable. The district has about 86,600 wells and 56 tube-wells, providing
drinking water and irrigation facilities.
- Road Transport
State Hightway (Jaipur-Udaipur) passes through the
district. The total road length in the district is 3,883 kms as on 31 March
2000.
- Rail Transport
A meter gauge railway line measuring 84 kms., connects
Ajmer with Khandwa and passes through the district. A broad gauge line has
also been laid from Kota to Chittorgarh which passes through the district at
Mandalgarh.
